What does pre-selected mean?
Please click on the photo of the cat to see if the cat has been pre-selected for adoption. The note appears under the cat's photo.
Stray cats brought into Winnebago County Animal Services are placed for adoption right away unless they have identification such as a rabies tag or microchip. Owned cats being held for stray time may be pre-selected for adoption. Please click on the photo of the cat to see more information about the cat or to see if there is a note indicating the cat has been pre-selected for adoption; the note appears under the photo. Cats on stray hold may be pre-selected for adoption with an approved application and by paying the full adoption fee. If the owner does not reclaim the cat, then it will be altered and go home after the stray hold period is over. Winnebago County Animal Services only takes one pre-select hold per cat. Cats at WCAS passed their stray hold time, owner surrendered, or friendly stray cats with no identification and currently available for adoption are available on a first-come, first-served basis with an approved application.
